Vegas Baby!!!

Winter is definitely here folks. We have been having some crazy kool mornings down here,
I think this is difinitely up there in my top 5 places to be on a cold day. On that note,it seems Andre can't handel the cold and is flying off to San Fransisco for a couple of weeks then finishing off his trip in Vegas. It was his last shift last night before he flys out on thursday and he seems pretty excited. Much love

Capital awards are coming up in a couple of weeks and we have been nominated for outstanding bar and outstanding bartender so if you could spare a moment to vote for us Aaron will smile.

Last week we had some Brazil Moreninha Formosa raisin through chemex and it was pretty friendly.This coffee had some interesting aromas comming through. I got some subtle hints of yeast and a dominant aroma of bold dark roasted cocao. That cocao aroma followed through to variaty of chocolate flavours with undertones of dried fruits. Me and Aaron shared a chemex, we looked at each other and we laughed with delight, it was a pretty memorable moment.

We just got in some Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Today so Pop in for a brew! Hope you all have a great week

Colombia Medellin Excelso

Hey folks

New origin in this week from Coffee Supreme. We have been sipping on some Colombia Medellin Excelso and we think its pretty darn tasty. Colombia was the worlds second largest coffee producer until recently and is now ranked third behind Brazil and Vietnam. It is grown at the foothills of the Andes at an altitude of 1600m. The coffee is grown by small holding farmers and large co-operatives. 

This is a wet processed coffee and has been roasted to medium-dark. It has a rich aroma of honey, nuts and a savoury aroma of freshly baked bread. I tasted some nice cherry fruit notes with some deep earthy undertones that followed through to a nice lingering finish of caramel. I thought it had quite a low but crisp acidity. We have been enjoying this coffee and have had some positive feedback. Stay tuned for next weeks Origin of the week and just a reminder we will be offering both tea and coffee tastings in store.

So Just a quick recap, last monday night Midnight Cocktail Club organised a coffee themed cocktail competition in which each bartender paired up with a barista to work together to create a cocktail using the mystery coffee supplied by Coffee Supreme (cheers Doug).
Ingredients ranged from caramelized broccoli to a page from William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
times ranged from two minutes to the twenty plus minutes of watching Kyle and Jessie attempt to make instant coffee and then drowning that in Fernet Branca.
Was a great turn out and there were some really delicious cocktails.
Thanks to everyone who turned up and congrats to the winners. Results are as follows

First off I would like to thank all of our friends for keeping us company during these cold winter days. We're coming into the fourth week of our coffee venture down here at Cuckoo and things are going great. The coffees are tasting beautiful and our patrons are looking beautiful. What more could we ask.
As of tomorrow we will be doing a different origin of coffee every week so keep a close eye on our blog for the low down and all the shenanigans going on at Cuckoo Coffee Emporium.
